To Live by Inspiration

When you live by inspiration, life becomes effortless. You don’t have to mull over any decision, big or small – it is inspired at exactly the right moment, so you just wait patiently for it to become clear. You don’t have to make any plans – they evolve by inspiration, spontaneously. You don’t have to search for answers to your problems – they come to you. To live by inspiration, you must be open, receptive and aware. You must listen to your inner voice, and follow it. Most people cannot hear their inner voices because their lives are filled with too much noise, garbage and clutter. Your inner voice is very quiet, but it knows all the right decisions to make. Its timing is perfect, and it will prompt you at all the right moments. It will tune you into your natural rhythm, and balance different aspects of your life in a perfect way. Each decision inspired by your inner voice, no matter how mundane, feels significant and meaningful. In this way, even the mundane becomes exciting. You feel you are moving towards the divine.

If you live by inspiration, everything will work out the way that it should. You recognize that life is much bigger than the self-absorbed world you know, and that you do not create life, you participate in it. Life happens, with or without your participation. When you realize this, a big burden will be lifted off your shoulders. You will feel light and carefree. You will no longer waste time worrying and trying to figure everything out. Stress melts away. You realize that it is entirely unnecessary and need not be a part of your life. Your mind becomes clearer for loftier thoughts, and you realize that life is a fun and exciting adventure. Every good thing that happens feels like a generous blessing, and every seemingly bad thing is seen as a challenge and means to grow.

Living by inspiration is like making art, except the art is your life. For an artist, these are one and the same. It is essential to trust in the process. If you believe in your art, you don’t worry and fret during the process, because you know it will turn out exactly the way that it should. Using inspiration as your guide, you take all the necessary steps, even detours, to make it work. Sometimes you may fear getting lost and not being able to find your way out again. It happens in life too. But the space where you get lost is the space where the most interesting and challenging things happen. You must always have faith that you will find your way again. Once you do, you will be in a better place than you were in before, so be happy when you feel lost. If you keep such rigid control over everything, always doing the same thing, you will always remain rigid and stagnant. Let yourself get lost sometimes. Do not fear the unknown but embrace it. It is the only way you will grow.

Even if you have an idea of how you want your life or art to actualize, you should keep this idea hazy and let it evolve during the process. The process is organic, flowing, and ever changing. It is a time for exploration, discovery and play. Avoid setting goals – these will only hinder the process. Let inspiration lead you step by step to where it wants to lead you. With inspiration as your guide, you will create something beautiful and inspiring to others.

Like an ocean wave, life ebbs and flows according to its own rhythm. It is best to just ride it and let it carry you. If you swim against the current, you will make life more difficult for yourself, and the futile effort will only lead to drowning. By riding the wave, you will go far – effortlessly.
